I'm almost certain that the pitting is causing me issues with clutch action and feel.

I'm getting micro bubbles up through the return port.

Is it possible to have the bore repaired? Like bored and sleeved?

Or just use another master cylinder?

Certainly bored, sleeved and seal kit on car Master Cylinders, don't see why a motorcycle one would be any different Other than it might be cheaper to purchase a whole new Master Cylinder?
Very easy to flush and bleed every 12 to 24 months, that will keep the pitting away.

We don't have any scrapyards around here unfortunately.

Did I read somewhere that most any VFR MC will work? Might just lose the mirror mount..

The stock M/C will be 14.00mm id, and that is a common size across Hondas.

You can buy a brand new one with all the pieces and parts, plus keep your mirror mount, for around $140 before taxes.

Yeah, take the risk of buying another problem. Spend $140 and be done with it.

^^ it's recycling, innit ? money is a factor too, some just want to spend less. most ebay stuff would work with a cleanup or seal replacement. bad bores are not so common.

I have a used eBay part on the way.

If the bores good, cool. If not, it was $30 not too worried.. I just start saving for a new one

It's good to know that there are new replacements available though.

Mmm powdery. And I can't believe the splash shield tab is like pristine

Little bit of cleanup and we'll see how the bore looks.

Have to unstick the piston first [IMG]

The bore looks surprisingly better than what I have.

Camera is being difficult to focus down in there without getting bad reflections, but looks ok

I'll have to swap over the seals and see how it goes. [IMG]

I wouldn't waste your time with that. Best case scenario is that if it "works", it's never going to be right, and you're just going to end up replacing it in the future. I'm not a fan of throwing away money, but I wasted a lot of my life trying to get a similar one working and ultimately trashing it.

Well the master cylinder is all put back together and mounted to the bike.

Bleeding took all of 5 minutes. Clutch pull feels much better. No grainy spot in the middle.

Test drive felt pretty darn good. Compared to the first MC, this is a complete leap and bound above.

So, worth the $30 for now.
