I own a 2000 Honda VFR with 15000 miles. I have done the regular service on it myself and am doing oil changes every 2000~2500 miles with premium dyno oil.

I feel believe my cat is clogged. When I remoed my exhaust and looked at the cat, it looks like its clogged, but its hard to tell. The honeycomb is broken for sure, but I can't see much else. It is also black, not grey, which seems odd to me.

I don't let my bike idle too long, and it has never gotten crazy hot while I have owned it.

Any thoughts? What are the odds of a cat failure at such low mileage? Is this a warranty coverage? On my car, the emissions system has a 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty on it.

thanks. I tried taking pictures, but they didn't turn out at all, they didnt show anything. I will try and get some better ones, but it will be a while.

^^To a shop for what? I work at a "Shop". If I take the Cat off, I will need a tune, Power Commander, and o2 simulators. Thats expensive.

Or should I take it to a dealer? Let them replace it? Do I really want a new catalytic convertor? How restrictive are they?

Replace the cat with a piece of pipe. A car computer will compensate for doing that, I would think the bike would too.

I know the 02+ VFR's run horribly without o2 simulators, i am guessing the 98-01 is the same though.
