I seem to have a problem with my clock/trip computer resetting itself. The first time it happened, the battery died right after so I replaced the battery. Now, with the new battery (maybe 2 weeks old) it just happened again. I rode yesterday for about 80 miles with no problems and it starts right up. In fact, it starts so fast it is hard to tell if the battery is low. Has anyone else seen this? It is a major drag especially when trying to calculate gas mileage.

Is this the only time since replacing the battery it has reset itself? Either way, I would check to make sure the connection at the battery is tight and that also there are no loose connections on any wires to the trip/clock or instrument cluster if it is digital.

yes, this is the first time. Seem to be no other symptoms right now. It hasn't happened since. My engine seems to be running hot so I think that is not helping the R/R situation.

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. It should be 13.75 give or take a point. If the charging system is operating well perhaps you need to check the connections on the instrument cluster for corrosion.

How hot is your engine running? Is the coolant full or down? They will run up to 220 deg if you are stationary but they will cool off when you start to move again.

Mine did something funky today! After trailering it 600 miles it refused to crank over when I pressed the start button. Voltage was good but all it did was make a tiny click and then .........nothing. After repeated presses and clicks it just fired up, vroom. I rode it for an hour and it has not repeated. Maybe some condensation in the start relay that cleared up with some heat, who knows. The irony is that my father inlaws V-ROD is doing the exact same thing today.

Yes, it will get that hot. I just changed and flushed the coolant yesterday. It was still running at about 220 today. Although, when moving it starts to cool down.

Mine will hit 220 and then the fans kick in. It seems to be normal for most bikes as I say the same numbers on a new R1 last week and an R6. Moving forward it should drop down to 200 ish or lower depending on the ambient temp. Today I was riding in 48deg (too bloody cold)weather in Canada and it was running at 185deg. Last week on the track at mid 90's ambient, it was over 200deg. It sounds like you are not too far off the mark and there may be some inacuraccy in the temp gage which makes it a few percent higher than the average.

Update: After this original post, I had seen no signs of RR/clock issues . . . until today. Went for a ride this morning for about 60 miles. Stopped for a few hours. Started the bike and the clock reset. I got about 10 miles from home and all of the symptoms I had read about in the forums were there. Tach acting weird, mileage not moving, trying to stall at lights. I tried to nurse her home but no luck. It died at a light about 2 miles from home. Completely and totally dead. Guess I'll go ahead and order that RR now.
