Charitable donation or Spam?

I'm helping the American Heart Association raise funds this year to help reduce deaths due to heart disease & stroke....

So I have contacted a whole flock of folks I know to ask for donations to my website.
Is this ok to do that here?
Or is it more "if we let people solicit on this board, we'd never get to talk about Viffers!"
In a quick check of the rules i saw nothing that addressed this issue.

I can see both sides of the deal & am happy to "unpost" this and Not post a formal request here if that is a rule or if it is offensive to the members.

please advise.....
