I am unable to attach the negative battery charger cable to the battery because there is already a wire attached under the negative screw. I have to take that existing wire out in order to attach the charger cable. 1) what is this wire for? 2) will it hurt to remove it so that the battery wire will fit while hooked up to the charger over the winter? Thanks for the help.
I am not sure about the set-up on a 1990. On recent models Honda tend to attach just one thick cable at each terminal. It may be the previous owner has added some extras and if you follow back those extra wires you may find whatever it supplies, and can make a decision as to whether removing them will cause problems. In this instance if you can't see what the wire is attached to I somehow doubt posting up pictures will help much as one black wire is much the same as another. A simple approach would be to remove it and see what stops working. If you are laying the bike up for winter (especially in Canada) - the best option is probably to remove the battery from the bike and keep it in the warm ideally indoors and then once a month attach a property motorcycle battery tender to keep it topped-up - most come with a choice of terminal loops or crocodile connectors which make hooking it up for the monthly top up very easy. Hope that helps SkiMad
