    My 03 is due for chain and sprockets. I know im going with steel sprocket and trying an Xring chain. Do you guys recommend sticking with the stock gearing or changing it any? I do mostly highway commuting with the VFR and tight twisty stuff not much freeway riding so i have thought about going either 2 more on the rear or down 1 in the front. Any suggestions or comments would be helpfull...

    On gearing, leave well enough alone, it's pretty much spot on, unless your like 300+ pounds or think you need a wheelie machine. OEM sprockets are hard to beat, just check out other sources to get em, Honda wants to much for em IMO, Service Honda is one good place, 1 800-828-5498 and yep X ring chain is a good way to go. Me, I'm running with RK but DID and think it's DK or is it EK anyway those are others that you can't get hurt by, more what you can get for the money.

    i recently posted a chain / sprocket question HERE
    and went with +2 on the rear and it's probably the best decision i've made next to the corbin.
    much like you, the bike is my daily commuter. no freeway, all surface streets to and from. +2 ups the RPM's about 200 but requires less shifting between 2nd & 3rd around town.
    as for the chain / sprocket setup, i went with THIS and have been very satisfied ever since.

    go here --> http://www.sprocketcenter.com/search.asp?Keywords=VFR <--

    read the gearing chart will help you make up your mind. +2 is probably what you should go with if you are are going to change from stock. -1 up front is like going up 2.8 or almost +3 rear. you may also want to look at a speedo healer if you modify from stock gearing. It is about $114 and will keep not only your speedo in check but your odometer. Just my 2 cents it is your bike. your decision.

    good luck with your decision:thumbsup:

    Id probably go 520s because its cheaper and lighter. Its not like the VFR makes tons of power where it would compromise anything.

    Ordered the DID 530XSO 17/43, steel front sprocket (have a brand new steel AFAM sprocket in the garage), and the RK Pro chain breaker & rivet tool kit yesterday. Personally, I like the stock gearing.

    This is the set up I have, +2 rear and Speedo healer, once you try it your hook, I will never go back to stock gearing. :biggrin:

    I just changed my sprockets and chain out recently and went ahead with the +2 on the rear sprocket. It really did make a big differance in my opinion. Thanks to everyone here who helped with that decision in some previous threads....

    I did -1 +1 sprockets from Sprocket Center and RK XSO 530 chain. I do mostly back roads and around town, often 2-up, not much freeway driving. This setup works great for me. I'm using a Speedo Tuner, it's $30 less than a Speedo Healer and works just as well.

    With 520 you will be limited to alloy rear sprockets, so be prepared to replace 2 or 3 over the life of the chain compared with steel......

    520 setup won't last as long as 530
