I am planning to replace my chain and spocket for my 05 VFR. The original spec. call out for 530, Some of the rider recommended 520. What is the benefit and what not. Please advice! Thanks in advance.

With a bike that weighs as much as a 6th Gen VFR, the pound or so you save by going to a 520 chain isn't going to be even slightly noticable. Get a chain & sprocket kit & you'll save a couple of bucks.

I got one this past winter on-line from a shop in Sacramento. It beat all deals out there outright without calling back (a peeve of mine, f&*K Dennis Kirk "call us last") and is a high qulaity, long warranty piece from RK.

FYI 520 is narrower than a 530. Plates are equal in size. You will not have as much contact area on your sprockets with 520 chain rollers. You save a slight amount of weight but distribute the load less on the sprocket. 520 conversions are common however. My $0.02 is that it will be as strong, but won't last as long (how much...I don't know) and what you save in weight you'll never notice on the street.
One more thing....530 chain and sprockets are an SAE and metric standard size for industrial roller chain. They are readily available and fairly inexpensive. 520 is all over the place too, but not a standard. Not sure if that matters to you, or anyone.

Link to thread with the Sacramento shop is below.... Looks like a few folks hooked up with that place after I shopped around and got the news out. Maybe they have a well priced set for your '05 too.

i got my chain and sprockets the same place VLAD did. they were helpful and the parts came in a short time. i went with a 530 chain because i could notfind an affordable rear steel gear in the ratio i wanted so i felt the 530 would help w/ an aluminum rear sprocket. also if you look at a D.I.D advertisement they showmax displacement of 750 cc for a 520. IMO i would stick w/ the 530.

Okay, I did order the kit from the place Vlad recommended. I have a local guy looking at my chain and he said my chain (DID 530 ZVM2 xring) still good and he recommended to replace the front and rear sprockets, change out the masterlink on the chain and that should be good for while. I replace this chain last year and I did put in about 20k miles. Bases on the warranty the chain should last at least 2years. At this point my chain is made a lot of noise when riding and I made adjustment to the point there is about 1" slack at one area and up to 2" in some area. Is it because my rear sprocket wont out un even? Please advise
