Well folks, its about time to replace my chain and sprockets. I already have the parts in my garage for the swap, but I'm trying to figure out how to lift the rear wheel off the ground in a stable manner to swap everything out.

Problem is, although I have about three different hydraulic car jacks in my garage, there isn't any flat surface on the bottom of the bike to hold it! How do you guys change out your chain and sprockets without a centerstand? I thought about making a makeshift stand using some old 2x4s, but I don't want my new (old) bike to fall over in my garage.

I found a centerstand for 85 vf700 for fairly cheap, but I'm doubting it'll fit on my frame. What do you guys think?

    Jacking up the bike

I position a bottle jack directly in the center of the oil pan amd carefully raise the bike then I prop the left and right side engine cases up w/ a couple of jack stands. YOu can weight the front to get the rear off the ground. Another method I use is to use a piece of plywood on top of a floor jack and raise the bike under the exhaust pipes and then brace it w/ the jack stands under each side of the engine cases.
