Hello all I recently purchased a 2003 VFR800 and the previous owner had the center stand off. I went to my local Ride Later store ordered new bolts which of course too 2 weeks to get here but anyway. I have tried to put the center stand back on but the bolt on the brake side does not seem to fit passed the exhaust is there a way to put it on without removing the header what am i missing? Also does anyone have any suggestions for a Rear spool stand for this bike as well?

    Thanks in advance

Hello Atombomb. The VFR doesn't use a spool type stand because of the single sided swingarm. The stand your looking for looks something like this: photo2-2.jpg

I checked my 2003 manual, but no info, just google VFR800 Center stand removal, comments I saw said you had to, but recommended getting gaskets first.

Atombomb, Congrats on the purchase! Hope she's putting a grin on your face...

Does it look like the headers are original? Some aftermarket ones (and given the cost of a new set from Honda, if they need replacing, most people go with a SS aftermarket set) have fit-issues around the centrestand. Having changed mine on my 5th gen, I know it can be tricky to get them to fit through and around the stand - this might be the reason that the previous owner didn't put it back on?

If this were the case, it ought not to be un-fixable. The reason for difficulty is often that there's a lot of play in positioning when assembling the headers and the whole system, as the sections can be rotated which changes the angles involved. Perhaps try loosening the clamps holding them, and try shifting about so that you have a better fit and the clearance you need for the stand.

Just keep in mind that you need to be careful with positioning such that nothing gets heated by the exhaust that shouldn't! Heatsheilding needs to be doing its job...
