I have been thinking lately about removing my center stand on my bike. I imagine it's pretty heavy but more than that I'm wondering if you got low enough in a corner could it by chance hit the ground and put me and my bike into the pavement? Just wondering what all of you have done or has anyone had this problem? It may not even be possible to hit it but just thought I'd ask.

Keep it on, the convienance is worth the weight, and I've never heard of a VFR center stand touching. Other bikes yes.

    My 2 cents

agree. Centerstands are well worth the weight. You'll be draggin plenty of other parts if you can touch that stand down. Besides that, its a PitA to get to one of the bolts.

I dare ya to try and touch the stand to the ground while riding...not really, you have to slide to do that.
I use the stand for most routine maint. as well as for parking in certain situations. Keep it.

I can't believe you're even thinking about taking it off. With the weight we're talking maybe 3 or 4 pounds, hardly a "performance" boost. You'd get a better performance boost going on Weight Watchers for 2 weeks.

Plus it's great in emergencies say you have a flat tire and you got to plug the hole. Just prop that sucker up!

Having had a 700cc VFR with only a side stand, and now had another two VFR's with centre stand + side stand...

    Keep the centre stand fitted!
I use the side stand when out and about. The centre stand gets used in the garage...

For me, the center stand is a key feature of the bike. If anything, I'd consider removing the side stand because I never use it!

The feelers on the bottoms of the foot pegs were designed with the centerstand in mind. They will drag before the centerstand foot does, that's what they are there for.

As to performance gains, as was said it doesn't weigh much and it's also below the center of gravity. If you take it off you'll never notice any difference, at least until you need a centerstand and don't have one.

Personally I couldn't live without a centerstand. When I stay at motels the bike goes on the centerstand so I can squirt the chain and then put my bike cover on it. In the basement it stays on the centerstand, and really makes maintenance easier. On pavement where I just don't like the lean on the side stand it goes on the centerstand.

I think you made a wise choice by leaving it on. I assure you, you'll peg in corners before your center stand hits.

Believe me - I have leaned it. And not once did the centerstand ever draged the ground.

I cant imagine taking it off. It is just too convenient for working on the bike, and also setting it up to make sure it doesnt fall over.

New Jersey can be a tough state to ride in - trust me on that if you've never ridden here - but we do have a few things that can make for some fun.

We have circles. We have cloverleafs. And we have jug handles. Basically, in New Jersey, you need to "go right" in order to make a left hand turn. The beauty of this is it can provide some outstanding opportunities to get into some great turns and have the ends of the pegs tap or drag down the road a bit. There's no center stand hitting.

    I second that.
    Better keep it.
I like it also for washing the bike.
