I've promised some folks an update once I got this ready, so here it is:

This is the first CBR954 shock that I've converted to fit the 6th gen VFR's. Pretty straightforward and similar to the conversions I already do with the exception that the extension is at the top mount instead of the lower. That took some interesting/expensive fixtures and tooling, but I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

If anyone is interested in converting a CBR954 rear shock to fit their 6th gen shoot me a PM.

New spring is pretty much required unless you are disgustingly light.

This particular shock was revalved as well.

Is the revalving a custom thing or do you do the same valving to all the shocks?
    custom spring rates available right?

I'd be very interested in this. 240lbs is just too much for a stock VFR...

Whats the reason for the 954 shock being a better fit than the 929?
(reading from your thread at vfrdiscussion) you said the 929 is a better fit for the 5th gens...How different is the rear suspension from a 5th to 6th gen?

Actually, since posting that thread I've found that there are still some issues with the 954 shock on the 6th gens. I thought I had everything figured out but it's difficult without having one right here to work on. At this time the 929 shock is still the best choice.

I setup valving and spring rates special for each rider and their application. That way I can try to give you the best possible performance without having to try and dial it in yourself. Getting a shock to work well for your weight would not be a problem at all.

That looks like it might have some clearance issues with the reservoir? How much clearance is there between the spring and the pivot beam of the swingarm?

Good job on the shock refurbishing.

The issue apparently is with the reservoir and the rear cylinder head. I haven't seen it for myself yet so I can't tell you any more than that. There is no problem with clearance between the shock and swingarm.

In case anyone is interested, I am still doing 929 conversions to fit all of the VFR models.

Just fyi, the 929 on the 3rd gens require a little finagling because of the reservoir. it doesnt fit forward because of the cylinder head, and you need to move the main fuse and relay from the front of the battery box to the side in order for the shock to fit in the other way. and although performance is better, there is no way to tune it while the shock is on the bike. there is just not enough room to squeeze a screwdriver in there for the dampening, or a spanner for the preload.

I figured there was an issue...all of the aftermarket shocks for the 6g have remote reservoirs or no reservoir at all.

Ok, I've been keeping an eye out for a 929 shock....I'll be in touch with you when I get my hands on one.

you extend the top mount on the 929 correct?

Hmm, this is definitely a option if there is a big improvement. The stock one feels soo soft.
