Just returned from weekend away and noticed a random rattle. The source is the heat shield on top of the catalyst. The welds were all rusted through. As there wasn't much holding it on , I removed it for safety reasons. I assume this has happened to other VTEC A6 owners. I guess replacement is unavailable unless you want to buy a new exhaust system.

Thanks for that. That's pretty much what I thought. I'm not replacing an entire exhaust just for the sake of a shield. It's there for a reason I suspect to protect the shock from overheating. I might see what I can construct as a replacement.

you could use exhaust wrap or have your pipes ceramic coated. Or bend up some sheet steel and tack weld it like they did :p

Yes the sheet metal idea was going through my head.

Cats get extremely hot, maybe fabricate a piece of aluminum and attach to frame rather than the cat.
