    rvfr,
since you are "uber guru" , and the title is carbs, do you know exactly what syncing the carbs does? is it just for idle, or also does it also affect cruising. i have the manual on how to do it , just wanted to know exactly what the adjustment affects.

LOL Yea man those are OEM from the factory, Sync effects basically the idle I mean thats where the biggest gains are if they are off. All thou it also does effect the entire range some what, as there's two parts to the sync, one is manual throttle as in keep things opening all at the same time. The the other is vacuum related, but it's felt mostly in the idle. I have only seen / experienced one VFR, 3rd gen I believe, that the sync was so far off it was really noticeable at idle, other wise unless the carbs are taken apart from their mountings or serious gumed up, one will have a hard time picking it out if at all, mine at the 32K service was spot on after they found the vacuum leak. apparently one of the sync plugs had found it's way off.

syncing the carbs will also improve throttle response

Looks like my air box, except mine has less dirt around the intakes!
Time for a $2 can of that supertech carb spray from wally world?

Just jerkin' your chain. If mine had been run yet this season, it'd look about the same.

My 500 doesn't have velocity stacks. Rather, the intake side of the carb throat is rounded. I'm guessing it has a similar effect as a velocity stack.
