THERE are lotsa numerous springs you'll need to account for when reassembling...........check the parts fishe.

For Cali carbs to work, some tubes need to be removed, some plugged.

While it's apart you should consider replacing fuel tubes O-rings ??

I just popped them off to swap out the air funnels. The ones on the set of carbs I intend to use were bent up from some previous noob trying to remove the carbs from the plenum

Squirrelman makes a good point though...regardless of what carb bank you're using. 'Specially cause removing the plenum can disturb the linkage just enough those orings will now leak...or will a couple months down the road. Which isn't surprising cause they're 20+ years old. I had one or two comebacks a few years ago so as of then I've started replacing them automatically on older V4 carb cleans.

WE know you're a loyal Honda pro, Dizzy, and want to protect their important place in the parts sales market, but please tell-- so i can save about $40 next time i need them -- whether off-the-shelf standard hardware store O-ring parts work OK or MUST i buy Honda OEM on these items or it will leak, cause a big fire and present a clear and present danger to all concerned ???

    You won't get fired....almost for sure !

Fired? ... That's a laugh. Not many people doing this as long as I have want to anymore...at least for a dealership. To be honest, I don't do many V4 carbs anymore. Maybe a few sets a summer. I work more on newer stuff...fuel injected. Carbs are goin' the 'way of the buffalo' I'm afraid. Some days it seems like I spend more time with self diagnostic programs, wiring diagrams and meters than with wrenches and chemicals. I DO like the OEM parts because I think the quality is higher. But...

K&L parts has a pretty cool array of parts and tools. I've been using their air cut diaphragms and a few other bits and pieces. The price difference is huge and the quality is OK. I think you can buy fuel and vent tube O-rings en masse. But they're not retail...distributor only. The other 'trick' I know of is...GL1200 gasket sets are vastly cheaper than most others. Like around 10$. The float bowl gaskets fit a a huge array of Honda carbs...from VT500C to VF1100C. The fuel tube rings that come with that kit also fit many different models. So often I use those sets instead of the recommended. Only thing is you're not gonna get, for example, the plenum/carb gasket...but they're usually in good shape anyway. And they don't fit alot of the F models such as 500 'cepters.

As far as replacing the fuel tube rings with hardware stuff...maybe...but I haven't gone there yet. You know many times you can squeeze a slightly different O-ring into place and try it. But the fit of the fuel tubes is so critical...and they're so delicate at this stage in the game that I really like an exact fit at that particular spot.

Carbs are not on a Plenum , they are on a air filter base plate.
Only fuel injection has a plenum chamber.

Not necessarily. Never fails to amaze a customer when their GL1500 begins to magically charge after a good whack with a soft dead blow directly on their automobile type alternator. If the brushes are sticking seems a bit of a jar will sometiimes work for awhile and verify the problem. Been known to work with starters too.
