    Hello Everyone,
Will Carbs off a 86 VFR700 work on a 84 VF700? If they will is it a direct swap? Do I need to change anything?
    Thanks for the help!

IN a word, NO. I believe spacing is different, but let's wait for Toe Cutter's reply.

If you have the original carbs, why could they not be made to work ?

Thanks Squirrel..the vf700 is a bike i bought for a parts bike and have decided to fix it up..its in nice condition overall but before i got it it was stolen out of a storage place and the guy started to strip it but was caught right away..but he did take the plenum off the carbs and 2 are hanging loose so they may need major work...but carbs are your thing so maybe we could salvage them??? the 4 carbs are there just not connected anymore....what you think??

Gen 1 ?? You think the engine is OK ?? Inspected the cam lobes ??

Look at a parts fische (sp?) to see what's missing, a few springs most likely.

    TC knows more.

I dont have the problem with Gen 1s like most..heck everything can be fixed. The thing ive run across with most in dealing with these bikes is the person lets some jack*** shop work on the bike and they have no clue what they're dealing with and they really mess it up or when they are having problems they neglect to give all the details about the bike..like im having an electrical problem..well it may be because the PO hacked the wiring harness to hell and back..cheap solder..tape everywhere..rigged up lights..you name it.

Three keys to owning a Gen 1:

Have a nice Shop/Man Cave with a huge TV
A well stocked fridge with tasty cold ones
Something else to ride you dont have to work on...no worries

and some general mechanical knowledge. if the carbs are partly off the bike, simply reassemble them. if need be I can provide pictures documenting what all is supposed to be where and how it should look.

So, you, sir, are in the best position to tell us all whether the 2 carb sets are actually interchangable !

Hey Squirrel how do you feel about the Gen 3 VFR750? I picked up a running '93 today for $300 w/ title...body is trashed and it'll need a rear wheel but other than that its all good...

You got a great deal there !!

Besides finding bodywork, my biggest concern would be what kind of damage was done to frame, swingarm bearings, rear hub bearings when the wheel got bent??

well the cool part is the kid has already paid a local shop to check everything out..the PO ran it into a guard rail..the forks, frame, motor, swingarm all good..the sub frame was bent and he had already bought one for it..it runs..shifts thru the gears..he had got a new tank for it..the plastics are toast and the rear wheel is bent...[IMG][/IMG]
