Carb question

    OK. Continuing on with my little pain in the ass project...
    Got the carb off and cleaned up very easily with the help of the "tutorials" posted on here, so much thanks to everyone who posted their tips. I am having a problem now. Carb is off the bike and visually very clean but the throttle won't snap back closed. It takes about a second to close when I release it. I'm guessing I need to soak the assembly again but I wanted to see if there was another common problem that would keep it from closing. Before I cleaned it I could not turn the throttle by hand, it was like it was seized up with crap or something. It turns easily by hand now, but doesn't snap back like it should. The spring looks ok, but I don't know if there is anything else I should be looking for. Thanks if anyone could chime in...

    I had the same issue after cleaning mine, after I let it sit for a day it would be slow to close, I just oiled and worked my springs that control that "snap" back. worked it a bunch and put some wd40 on a Q-tip and rubbed it inside the throttle plates when I had them open, after doing that a bit and working them they free'd up fine

    Deep-soaking carbs--almost never really needed for a proppa cleaning--often ruins the lube along the throttle shafts, another reason not to do it. The number of so-filthy carbs that actually need submersion baptism is only about 5%. The rest just need simple jet cleaning without immersion of any sort.

    I always lube throttle shafts after carb cleaning. Set them vertically with carbs on the side, dribble some oil on the shafts, wait about a day, then do the other sides and let them sit a day too.

    Just an update. The wd40 worked, everything is moving as it should. Squirrelman, I felt I needed to soak them cause of how caked with crap the whole assembly was and the fact I couldn't move the throttle at all. They may not have been that 5% you mentioned, but they were 6%, definately the ugliest I've ever had to mess with. :biggrin:

    On a more frustrating note, I managed to lose one of the jets. I had two little helpers that wanted to learn and we may have had a few too many cooks in the kitchen if you know what I mean. Service Honda is starting to love me...
