Finally done re-installing carbs after a thorough cleaning. Took lots of vodka and alot of cussin', but got them seated.Carb boots are always a pain, whether it be a single or inline 4, but V-4's are top of the PITA list. Now I'm on to spark plugs. Left side front is also a PITA (rad is in the way). But I shall perservere and not let it beat me. Wanna hear that sweet V-4 sound!

Carb boots need vasaline bro and they slip right on. Spark plugs are not so bad as long as you make them the project for the day that way when it takes you all day it wont seem so bad.

I used silicone spray, and they finally went on.

Wow, I've had no problem with either! Plugs are a 20 minute job! For the carb boots, I use Zep 45. Very slick stuff, with teflon in it.

The boots were a little hard and gave me grief at the start. I used lots of silicone spray. The only plug giving me trouble is the left front, the rad hose that goes into the frame will not let me swing the radiator out the way like I can do on the right front side. I do not have the proper socket. Mine is too long. I will rectify that real fast.

Oh, I just noticed you were talking about a VF1000R. That makes a difference!
