Hi guys, hope someone can help me out with a car question. I recently had to replace the ignition coil and module on my 1993 Ford Telstar TX5. The guy that fixed it said I should check the charge rate as those old distributors don't like to be overcharged. He said I should be getting 13.8v. I'm getting 14.4 (with the lights on or off), is this excessive? Thanks.

No that's a normal charge voltage for 12v auto systems. If you rev it up above 2-2.5k rpms it should raise some. 14.8-15ish v is generally max. It's most likely an internal regulator in the alternator so you can't adjust it. You need a minimum of 12.6v to maintain the battery I believe.

I have no idea what a 1993 Ford Telstar TX5 is. So I really can't say. Check the web for specs on your car. Should be able to find alternator troubleshooting info on it or most alt systems from Ford.
