Can't turn fuel tap (petcock) on the road - any tips?

    It's a bit of a "first world problem", but I can't turn the fuel tap (petcock to our American friends) while riding, I always have to pull over to switch to the reserve. Any tips? I can get it to "off", but the second quarter turn defeats me.

    I had to rebuild the petcock on my 500 when I first got it. made it a lot easier to turn and it stopped leaking to boot. :D
