So, I installed manual cam chain tensioners on my 05 and it's running fine, but what I haven't found is how much freepaly or slack there should be on the cam chains, so I know that my tensioners are not too tight not too loose. GGoing by ear is one thing, but knowing it is within spec is another. I looked in the downloadable service manual, but I haven't found it yet. This will also let me know that the cam chains are within spec also.

    Please let me know.

I don't have a specific freeplay for the VFR but I do have manual tensioners in my VTR1000F. For those the recommendation was to set them to 5-7mm total freeplay at the midpoint between the cam sprockets. To measure that you need to have the valve covers off, and also there is a chain guide that needs to be unbolted. Here's a link that has lots of pretty pictures:

Yeah, it's a thing I cannot find. Maybe I'll call around to some local shops.

My local dealer couldn't find anything, so I put a call into Honda. I am waiting to hear back. APE did show this, via Google.
Mine was WAY too tight! Thankfully, I haven't ridden too terribly much.

Yeah, I'd love to have cam timing gears, believe me! Maybe I'll give him a call. I need to correctly adjust the tension of my tensioners...
