So I decided to try and find a used set of carburetors for my bike. This way I have a second set that I can have rebuilt, ready to go. That way there's less down time for the bike. So I found a local (about 1 hour drive away) place called Cycle Salvage in Milford, CT that will get me carbs for my 93 750 for $150 if I pick them up and pay cash, and $185 if I have them shipped to my address. So onto my questions.

    1) Is this alot to pay for carbs or a decent price? I know buying new is outrageous.

    2) What should I be looking for, other than the usual nuts and bolts are all present sort of a thing? I know the general things, but is there something special about the carbs that I need to make sure is there?

    3) Any questions I should ask the guy about the carbs?

I'm going to call tomorrow. His shop is only open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from Noon - 6pm.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Adam

I don't know if California emmissions on that bike would be different or just a diff pilot screew setting.
Check all screews for signs of being apart, stripped sceew heads.
Check that all 4 butterflies open and close exactly the same.
lift the cv slides and let them drop all should close the same (slight delay not just popping down) if the diaphrams are good.
Check the plastic fuel line tee's for cracks or breakage.
May see if they'll let you remove a float bowl and see what it looks like inside. Left side bowls may be dirtier. (the side the throttle cables normally attach)
If they have a 100,000 miles on them jet needles, needles & seats and butterflie shafts may be worn.
Price would be based on condition, they would need to be real nice for me to pay $150

Questions?? He doesn't know anything about the bike they came from. Assume they need a routine basic cleaning.

When I look for carbs to salvage I pull the slides up to check for a jet kit and remove the bowls to inspect for corrosion beyond repair. Most are ok but if Dyno Jet needles in it I know it need to have or find more parts, slides, needles, and jets...not just a quick fix. I picked up a set two weeks ago that were cherry, throttle shafts were stuck.Brain farted and did not realize it until it was too late.Still learning hard lesson's.
