I cannot keep up with my friend on his damn 08 gixxer 1000.After constant pressure from me he finally agreed to a swap over our favourite bit of road.
The gixxer was light years ahead of my 99 VFR800 in every respect and felt like a mega powerful 600 with amazing lean angles available with complete confidence and corner speeds I could only dream of on the vfr.I was in shock when something yellow flashed by on the outside when I was about 10 corners in and going for it.Yep my own damn bike had just past me!I did not see it again for 20 minutes by which time I had decided I was not trading the viffer on something newer after all inspite of the "what an old dog" comment from my friend.

Next time strap a camera "FLIP" series are great and that would of been great footage.
Goes to show the rider in 90% of times is the real factor and not the bike.

I'd be interested in hearing your friend's opinion of your bike.

That would be interesting to hear.

Right now I bet at least half of the vfrworld crew could beat me on my vfr with just a 250cc bike..... I'll keep trying to get better though!:biggrin:

yeah!"Old dog"!was not sure if he was talking about me or the bike.
I have to admit I really believed his bike was the main difference between us as I have on the right day stayed within sight of his rear wheel on Tighter stuff(sub 140kph).
Actually riding his gixxer I was still convinced I was going much faster than on my own bike.He said slower?I always new the rider is the difference but now
    I really know.

It all depepnds on the rider. Did a 1000 mile trip over the weekend with my 99 Viffer, an '02 Viffer, an 02 Busa and an 03 Yamaha Thundercat. The Thundercat was a 600 and he was the sweeper and we never ost him. On the way back, we couldn't keep up with the Busa even though we were doing a constant 200km/h...so he led me into town...

Still sneak up and over 200kph now and then for a brief moment but the day's of riding long distances at high speed are over here in Australia as the law will take your bike and stick you in jail if busted repeatedly way over the limit. Most people just have short squirts up and down the rev range to limit exposure or search out really tight roads to get a thrill.
Sounds like a great ride though:thumbsup:

This in itself confirms that it has nothing to do with the bike, it is all about the rider. I have whooped up on GSXR 1k's many times while on my ole VFR, only to have them ask me what kind of engine work I had done to it. I enjoyed saying none at all, and that I was just a better rider than them.

Well in the old days!Like 1982 I did this ride 2 up plus gear on a yamaha xs1100 the way it should be done, cruising at 160-200kph(100-120mph) for days on end.
Got one fine for 175kph that cost $35 and demerit points had never been heard of back then.Damn them old days really were good.
For you Crusty this is still possible for 2 reasons both of which I am not giving here.I recently went to Adelaide at go to jail speeds on a ZX12R I was delivering with out a ticket. How?? Will tell you when your really on the way.
No need to ship your bike I can help you out with a bike if you are willing to do the same for me in the US.
