    mark it 8, dude
in cleaning up my new to me G5, i thought my windscreen (stock) could use some love.

i know there are several hi-end plastic products, but ive generally found that MEGs consumer grade products work for my needs. the megs plast-x is found at almost every auto depot, but it was actually several $ less at wally-world.

i used some blue painters tape at the fairing edges and set to work with the screen in place. it definately made a diff, but i could tell it was less than good in the areas that could not be accessed, so... off comes the screen.

thankfully, no frozen bolts or stuck screws, so no issues getting it off.

remove the 2 + screws that hold the inner cover trim pieces, 2 bolts attaching each mirror, and finally the 2 + screws under each mirr that go thru the screen. then the screen just pulls back/up to release. it took maybe 20 mins the 1st time, and will prolly take less than 10 the next time.

got prepped with a big MF towel to use as a base to work on, a MF applicator, and several MF towels to remove and buff. the best way was to sit and position the screen basically in my lap and over my knees. it allows you to use firm pressure with the cleaner without stressing the screen.

my screen didnt look bad, but the megs did clean it up pretty well. i doubt it could be further improved without going for a full-blown wet sand and multi grit process, that i am not prepared to undertake.

one thing- the megs did seem to leave small streeks of products that the MF could not seem to buff out. i would hit it again with the cleaner, and the streeked areas would just seem to relocate. it was as if the MF just couldnt get enough "bite" to remove it entirely. it didnt matter how hard i rubbed, it wasnt coming off without some other intervention. now as much as i believe in hi-tech products and processes, i used a low-tech solution to solve the issue: gave the MF a carefully measured application of spit, and magically it now has just the right degree of "bite" to remove all the product!

next i got all huffed up on the honda spray polish, and used it to cleanup all the area under the mirr mounts and their hardware, and also used some megs cleaner-wax to address the area of the fairing under the screen before install.

just reverse the steps to get it all back in place, and enjoy the gleeming screen

PS- the G5 mirror boots just suck. theres gotta be a better way
