So I decided that I needed a good cable lock to keep the street youths from joyriding my bike. Bought a kryptonite cable lock and the very first time I used it guess what happened...I forgot it was on...it was a short ride at the end of which I was promptly reminded of my recent purchase. The cable ran itself up in between my front forks and brakes/speed sensor ring. Well it broke off a section of the speed sensor ring, the magnetic metal toothed ring the is attached to the wheel. I tried reattaching it to the bike with JB Weld. Well its secure on the bike but the ABS light still flashes on my dashboard and my ABS is non functioning. Im thinking that although I reattached it to the wheel its set too far back from the sensor to be giving an accurate reading. I figure I have a few options:

    Option 1:
Take the bike to my local Honda dealer and have them fix it. I already checked with my local honda dealer and the price for the part is $140 through them, not absurdly expensive but more than I wanted to pay for a metal ring. Labor would be an estimated $45 because it wont take them long to R&R the front wheel.

    Option 2:
Buy the new piece and R&R the front wheel assembly myself/with the help of a local VFRW member helping me (Ducc? Lint? maybe I can get OOTV to scoot up here?). Im mecahnically savy (worked in an autoshop for years) but have never done more than an oil change on a bike. Im completely unfamiliar with putting a front wheel assembly back together (taking it apart is always the easy part).

Option 3 (probably the most difficult option):
Use some kind of chemical to remove the JB Weld currently holding the piece together (im sure there is something out there to do this), remove the piece from the bike completly and re weld the part so it is flat and a uniform distance from the sensor, remove the wheel (again with help from some members) and replace the welded part on the bike and ride away like a champ.

Here are a few pictures of my mess:

EDIT: Just researched removing JB Weld and it looks like heat in excess of 500 degrees is what will take it off. I dont currently have the capability to do that.

All things considered, #2 seems to me the best option. I have plenty of garage space and tools, or can come to you if our schedules allow it if for some reason the locals are unavailable.

By the way, taking off and putting the wheel back on is no big deal. Just make sure the spacers are in the correct side and orientation, put some grease on the axle before putting the wheel back on.
Calipers have to come out first and put them back on last. I'm sure you knew that.

Tell me about it ... I had mine on/off almost a dozen times over the weekend dealing with a tire that just wouldn't balance with beads, and then wouldn't seal along the bead. I could be pit crew for this now. :)

That is the beauty of disc locks......they come with a tether that goes over your hand grip to remind you that it's on there.

I stuck a 1/2" dia round magnet wrapped in yellow tape on my disc lock. When I used the lock I put the magnet over the bike ignition key hole. When I next tried to start bike the magnet blocked the key hole. Ah ha! The disc lock must be on! Saved a lot of grief!!!
    Sorry about the fairings.

I had tried looking up the part but didnt know the name of it so I was unsuccessful. However after going to my local Honda dealer they told me the part was called a pulser ring and would be $151. I had them order it but the parts guy told me the order doesnt go in until tomorrow at noon so I could call back and cancel it tomorrow if I found it someplace else. I found it here for $118. I told the service manager if it cost me over $45 in labor I would just do it myself and after a moment of thinking he said he could do it for $55 if that worked for me. So tomorrow ill call back and cancel the part order. Might still have them install it since it is so cheap.

Normally I'd be happy to help but this Sunday I'm going to my sister's house to celebrate my mom's birthday and Father's Day with the family.

Well considering it's the front wheel sensor ring, might be better to go to him. Not sure what my weekend schedule is for next weekend, I was planning a Track Day in Fontana (Sat. 25) and Sunday would most likely be reserved for more family stuff...
