broken clutch plate?

i had put about 1k miles on my bike and thought everything was fine. Until i took off in kinda a hurry and gave it a little more juice than normal and about halfway on the clutch throw it caught just long enough to lurch forward and made a funny noise. I've put another 100 miles on it and does not effect anything else, shifts smooth, goes into each gear good. I mentioned it to a buddy he said could be broken clutch plate? Any ideas? Anyone else get this jump from their bike? It drives fine like I said but was planning on taking it to the dragstrip next time I went. I'd hate to try and launch hard and cause a big headache in my clutch basket.
