Broken Bolt

Well son of a biscuit eater. I have a nice trip planned in 2 weeks with some buddies. Yesterday I installed the new chain and sprockets I have been waiting on for a while. Everything went smooth until I was reinstalling the clutch slave cylinder assembly. If you are looking at it from the side the bottom left bolt went in took hold and then snapped. I was using a ¼ in drive with a 3 inch handle so I know I didn’t tighten it too hard since i was only snugging things down before torquing them. My question is this, would you have the bolt extracted and replaced or just carry on and not worry about this one being broken? I haven’t pulled it back apart yet to see where it broke yet but hope to do that this evening. Clutch still works just fine and the slave cylinder and housing doesn’t give or move when it is being actuated.

You're lucky the bolt broke cuz i've seen cases where the mounting point itself tore off the engine.

 

Well after some discussion I am hoping that I got the bolts switched and only the first few threads engaged and then sheared off. If that is the case then all will be well and nothing other than a bolt will have to be replaced. I am going to pull it apart this evening and make sure.

 

Pull it apart last night. I put the 90mm bolt int he 95mm hole and it sheared the first few threads off. Swapped the bolts and very carefully put them back in and torqued them down and all is well with the world. All holding strong. Thanks again for the help and advice.
