After selling my last '99 VFR and looking around for a few months it is finally time to put some money down on my third bike. This time it is going to be a new 2008.
So as the title goes, what is the best way to break in a new VFR? There seems to be lots of different info on the web, but some are even contradicting.
Also should I ask the dealership to start using synthetic oil right away or after the first oil change?
Anything else to be aware of or to look out for?

    Thanks

    All help is greatly appreciated

the best way, without a doubt, is to follow the Honda recommended instructions to the letter. Change to a quality synthetic oil when recommended and enjoy the bike. these "dyno" breakins and full throttle things are myths. Honda spends millions in reserch and development every year, follow the manual and enjoy

300 miles below 5k rpm. vary your speed. about it. I changed after 300 miles then took to dealer for the 600, just to follow warranty. Figured there may be extra metal in the oil and this would help is all.

+1 on the above ^^ varying throttle (while keeping in the correct RPM range) will do wonders to seat the rings... avoid drones at the same speed/throttle position for miles and miles. Wide open from time to time (keeping under the recommended RPM range) is very helpful - aka short shifting

Strange that the first thing Honda does when the bike reaches the end of the assembly line is a chassis dyno pull at full throttle.

The lawyers have as much of a say in the owners manual as the engineers. Maybe more. Consider the legal implications of telling new owners to run their bike for short bursts of full throttle.

In the hot states I rode at night to keep temps down for a few hundred miles, in mid summer here break in on some bikes would toast them. I did break in the wifes 250 Ninja in the az summer and it had more knocks, noises and metal in the oil at 900 miles than I thought possible without grenading.

I'm breaking in my new 2006 right now- I was told the same as above, vary throttle speed and try not to kick in the Vtec a lot. Dealer told me to stay with regular oil and there was no need for synthetic but I'm not sure about that one. I have noticed a tapping noise when I'm pulling out at low rpm, especially when the engine is hot. It seems to come from the front but I'm not sure. Anyone have that occur?
