Can somebody explain to me in layman's terms how the braking system on 1999 VFR800 works. I think I understand...just need a little clarification.

When you squeeze the front brake, it applies the brakes on both front rotors. On the left side you will notice that there is more than just a caliper and rotor. The extra stuff is the second master cylinder. When brakes are applied to the front, the rotational force caused by the braking actuates this master cylinder and applies a little bit of back brake.

When you apply the rear brake, it applies a small amount of braking to the left front rotor in much the opposite way, with the exception of the left front being linked directly to the rear brake instead of having an extra master cylinder on the rear break.

Thats about as simple as it gets without getting into the more complicated aspects of the calipers themselves.
