I had my '04 non-ABS parked at work today, and a coworker came into my office to tell me he saw a little puddle of something on the ground under it (actually, he had some of whatever it was on the tip of his finger - he rides a Buell, maybe that explains it?). I went out to take a look, and there was a little trail of fluid from what had dripped down onto the chain guard, left footpeg mount, and finally onto the ground. Not much, and I sure wasn't thinking brake fluid at the time (although I should have recognized it from the smell and feel), and I saw that the oil level was OK, so I rode home later. Poking around a little, it appears to be a leak from the "servo PCV" according to the service manual. I just got the bike a couple of weeks ago, with around 3500 miles on it. Doing a search here I came up with a recall for the '02 to '04's for a potential leak in the PCV. Is this a common problem? Will I have any issues getting it replaced under the recall if it is leaking? Thanks, Rod
I think <--- when there is a recall for something like that the mfgr covers the cost of repairing it for you. I have never had to do that so I can't say 'yes', but it can't hurt to call a couple dealers and ask.
Update I finally got a service appointment at the dealer (Planet Honda in Chadds Ford, PA), and they called yesterday to say that yes, the servo PCV was leaking, and that it would be replaced for free under the extended warranty which came with the bike (and was transferred to me from original owner when I bought it). Bad news is that it is not a stock item, will take 3 to 5 business days to get one in, so my bike is sitting in their shop for the next week or so. They said that according to their records the recall had already been performed back in May 2005, although that amounted to inspecting the PCV and seeing that at that time, it was not leaking. As a precaution I yanked the Power Commander (but not the O2 eliminators)out before I took the bike in, thinking that they might void the warranty as far as the engine if they saw it, but was I being too paranoid? They sold the PC III to the original owner when he bought the bike new from them. Rod
