Ok, so I was digging around in the back of the tail section where the CDI's are, and I see this other box (which for some reason is wrapped in a plastic bag) and find it on my wiring diagram.

I see that it's called the Brake and Tail Light Failure Sensor. Anyone know anything about this?

As it is right now, all of my marker lights come on, however, they do not engage when their respective switch is pressed (IE Brake lights don't brighten when brakes are pressed, turn signals don't blink)

I've checked the wiring to the signals, and it appears correct. Before, all the lights worked once when I was working on starting it, so I'm thinking it has to either be the signal relay or maybe this sensor?

Any help would be great, I'm trying to avoid taking her into the dealer to have a mechanic take 5 hours to sort through an electrical problem.

    Thanks guys!

I don't know the specifics of your bike, but generally speaking , that sensor does precicely what the name implies. It lights a warning symbol in the cluster that tells you that your lights are not functioning properly. A very important device, when you only have one light in the rear.

Yeah I kinda figured it out by trial and error. At least I know it's working! :D Now I just gotta figure out what's preventing the actual lights from functioning properly.

So far this is what happens:

Turn Signals: All four light up when power is on. When Signal Switch is pushed in either direction, nothing happens on the rear side, but the front will go out and stay out till the signal is canceled.

Brake light just stays lit no matter what.

    Any ideas?

I would check signal from turn switch , at its age the contact may be less than perfect. Looking at Neckutters bike for this and am pretty sure it is his problem. My 86 has had many problems with switch gear because of time and use.
