I'm having a real hard time finding levers for my 86 vfr700, everything online tells me that these are a one year only thing. Can any of you long time VFR lovers tell me if this is correct or not? Can I use some newer handles and modify them somehow. Thanks for all the help

I looked it up in the Dennis Kirk catalog I have here. They have "Carbon Fiber Look" levers to fit your bike. The clutch lever is part 57-1804, brake lever is part 57-1805. They are $10.95 each.

In the plain color that matches the OEM, they only have the brake lever; there's no clutch lever offered. For that brake lever the part number is 57-524 and the price is $8.95.

The phone number for Dennis Kirk is 800-969-7504.

Dealers seem to stock the clutch levers, so I doubt that they're single-year levers. My brake lever looks just like the one on my wife's 87 hawk GT.

I dropped my '86 700 in December, and was able to locate a lever at the first dealer I called (no ordering required).

Although the dealers are about 3x the cost of the above ones... my clutch lever was $30 or so.

    86 vfr levers

found levers @ zoom cycles in santa clara for $10 i think? long story short, my boss backed into my '86 700 in his truck (couldn't see it? oops?) and knocked it (of course) onto the left bar and snapped it to about an inch long. so next time i was in the neighborhood i stopped by and they had them ON THE SHELF for a little under ten bucks as i remember. killer shop, been in the bike biz for 40 years now. know their s#*t and very cool and helpful as well. there's another website that has them (and not the carbon "look at my cheap levers" look) which i can't remember or find now, but they are out there. check out zoom's website if you're not close, i'm sure they'd ship to you and it will still probably be less than 30 bucks.
