Bowling for Bicyclists

It simply amazes me how many people ride on challenging twisty roads like that wearing jeans and sneakers. The dude on the Buell banged his knee up pretty bad thanks to his poor judgement to wear jeans that day. I low sided my 3rd Gen last October at the Dragon and I slid a pretty good distance on the asphalt but walked away without a scratch thanks to my gear. I also don't understand why some people wear protective jackets but choose not to wear gloves or riding pants. I also get a good chuckle when I see someone try to put their foot down like they are on a dirtbike to prevent themselves from wrecking while going 30 mph on a 500+ pound bike. That's a great way to break your ankle. I'm surprised the Harley dude was able to walk away after watching his ankle get rolled up under his bike.

I will not let my wife see these. Obviously there are a few corners on Mohuland Drive that are prime for happenings of stupidity. Seems plenty of cameras on hand to record this for everyone to see. Thanks for posting Stuke. Should see you in about a years time if all goes well.

PS. If you are going to spend the money to carry a fire extinguisher around in your car, which is a great idea, first make sure it is the right one chemically, then learn how to use it. That flaming bike could have been put out, not that I think it would have made that much of a difference in the end.

 

That one particular spot on Mulholland is a fave for the motopaparazzi. Is the spot a turnout or is it just the odd radius and slope of the roadway?

Not a great place for bicycles "on any Sunday." In my hood in Ogeron, some bicycle lanes are damn near as roomy as the cage and bike lanes. Not all but even when the bicycle lanes are wide enough for two riders abreast, they will ride in the middle of the fucking road.

Bet that dude that got ass ended won't do that again..

 

I have been on this section of road too many times to count. Personally I don't think it's a difficult turn or has anything that shouldn't keep an experienced rider rubber side down. The only thing I would say that may throw someone off (no pun intended), is that it is an inclined turn, probably 20-30ft of an elevation change from start to finish. Every now and then after a rain fall, you might get mud and/or rocks on that curve but nothing a slower speed with good throttle control won't get you through. Personally, I think it's the cameras that mess with these riders and that they are looking to impress and lose sight of their line and focus. Either that, or these bicyclist are throwing down some diesel fuel in the middle off the night!
