Blown 30 amp fuse

I have a 2006 interceptor and have had no problems until now. In the last month, the 30 fuse I assuming that lead to the FI has blown, both times while riding, but at idle. I figure it leads to the FI because all electrical still works, but will not start. After inspecting, the electrical lines leading to/from that fuse were scorched and very hot to the touch. I replaced the fuse, and it started right up, but has since blown again. Any suggestions? I have read in other threads that this may be due to the factory wiring harness.

 

I would not ride the bike again until you have this sorted out.

Go here to learn how to check your charging system, but if you already have toasted wires, I would consider replacing the wiring right away.

Get a VFRness (heavy duty wiring harness) for your 2006 here:

You might need a new R/R as well. Check it before you buy one as they are a tad pricey.

Thanks for the information. I already ordered the toasted battery harness. Next, will check the R/R per instructions.

 

That happened to me on my 5th gen. A wire was grounding itself.

 

anything to do with the R/R or wiring harness?

 

Haha. Actually no. I just said wire cause I'm sure your license plate light is tidy. The person before me did a self rear fender hack and used two tiny LED's for the license plate light. Well I didn't think they lit up well so I put back the stock bulb holder. It's kinda "just there" and it kept touching the sub frame on my way home. I just happened to get off my bike and start looking around and noticed a part of the bulb holder didnt have electrical tape on it (the holder is the ground).

So pretty much any wire touching something it shouldnt can blow a fuse.
