So my bike died again. Some suggested it was my awesome chipmunk nest in the air filter. See my other post:
    http://vfrworld.com/forums/6th-generation-2002-2009/34503-engine-died-why.html
This morning on my way to work it died twice and luckily I made it back home. It was running kinda bad by the time I got home. This time on one of the occations the dash went dark, but then came back on. What the hell!! I'm wondering if it could be my RR? Where is that even. I haven't had a chance to look at the bike yet. Pleeeeeaaaaaase let me know some potential culprits.

    Your bike is 2005..?
    Did you check your gas?
    Spark plugs, airfilter..?
Have the bike have the Hardness recalled done? We need more details about your bike before we can help you out.

well from your other post you said the mech told you PC was not working, ck that first.
tug on the connections and if it shuts off there is your problem

Lights out on the dash would indicate to me that it's not fuel delivery or air intake related. Although I'm sure the nesting was causing a seperate condition on to itself, before you cleared it. I'd take a look at the R/R connections and condition, as well as the stator's. If the bike is stalling at low rpm or stops, and the symptoms seem indicative of a dead battery, it's probably the stator; it was in my case, anyway. I was hoping that there was simply a bad connection, but before I had the chance to inspect it a total stator failure occured. You may want to stop riding it untill there is a resolution, unless you're up for a $350 tow - like me.

.....A fault somewhere in the electrical/charging system may also explain the sporadic operation of your PCIII.

you should have kept this on one thread.
check the harness and make sure the critters did not chew up any wires.
best to pull the air box off to look, seeing how that was their winter home.
by the way what did you charge for rent???

My mechanical abilities are about that of said chipmunk, but when you said the dash went dark, was it possible that the bike was actually stalling/shutting off, and therefore its tied back into a potential fuel/air problem?

Not sure about location of the R/R on 2005, but on mine is the left side under the rear plastics - kind of below where your butt cheek would be.

My bike is a 2000, but I am one of those few people that actually did have a bad PC. Removed it about 2 years ago, never replaced, and (knock wood), no further issues.

    1. RR is located right side below the clip-on & behind the fairing. I dont think this is the culprit.
    2. as suggested check wiring for rodents chewing on them, check the ignition cables too. I've had this happen to one of my cars. Mice love to chew on things. Check ALL your fuses for fitment & continuity.
    3. Make sure your negative cable is tightened on the negative pole
    4. Ditch the power commander & reset the ECU. If rideable, go for a spin and see what happens.
    5. Make sure the contents of the nest didnt get past the filter into the throttle bodies, and forbid, the intake valves.
    6. also as suggested, follow up on the harness recall.

Thanks guys. I'll check a few things you suggested. Appreciate all the help. I'll let you know when I get something. Just sucks I'm not ridding. :(

Oh yeah, how would one go about reseting the ECU? Would I just disconnect the battery?

Ok, about to to dig in now. after thinking about this problem I think it is the Stator. For the past few months I was riding up till this problem I was smeilling a buring smell like oil and electical, but never saw any leaks per say and the oil level was fine. Where is the stator? left or right side? Maybe I can inspect it to see if it is burnt up. Could the stator be causeing this?

Long story short: loose main ground to frame. Looks like the bolt holding the ground under the gas tank loosened up. This is the one coming from the negative terminal on the battery. I will take it for a very local ride and see if it is fixed. Good thing I took all the plastic off. :( thanks for everyones help!
