Hi all. I have a currently unused original silver rear wheel for my Red '05 model. It's in absolutely perfect condition. I have seen a few photos of the same wheel with the outer rim edge stripped, and reckon it'd look great. So I'd like to know what methods members recommend to remove the paint. I have a Dremel, but have not used it a lot. I am also not sure if I should leave the centre section silver, or have it painted a different colour. I really like gold, and am using an 8 spoke gold rear from a 3rd Gen at the moment. This looks great, but would use gold... http://vfrworld.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/10202/ppuser/6963 I am also considering getting a second set of fairings and having them painted in Repsol colours. If I do that, I'll have the 8 spoke painted in Repsol Orange. So, opinions please...? Leave it untouched, remove the paint and polish the outer edges, or other suggestions?
JASCO PAINT AND EPOXY REMOVER OR AIRCRAFT REMOVER(i think the name is)...super strong stuff. I would suggest take some time and tape off what you dont want stripped and also take your time and paint the stuff on with a small bristled brush. from what i read, make sure to protect yourself cause if it gets on your skin, it will burn, going to need baking soda to neutralize it. that is my weekend project. Stripping and polishing rims....might even do a write up. Coming soon Stripping and Polishing Rims...
Jasco's EEEVIIILLL on skin (currently refinishing my kitchen cabinets, and using a lot of it). Immediate dousing in cold water works wonders when it gets on you. And it will eat a lot of different gloves (like nitrile and latex). The orange stripping gloves at the HW store work ok, but I have a pair of PVC coated gloves (think mad scientist) that resist it best.
Thanks for your help all. I have decided to take the wheels to a guy I know, who knows a guy who does acid stripping on wheels. So will see how that goes.
