My commute to the office is about 21 miles one way. I really don't like using my back pack and was wondering what others use to haul their laptops to and from work.

    Any ideas out there??

I don't haul a laptop but I do take comparably sized stuff, and I use a soft tail trunk mounted behind me. Seems to me the vibration would be less and the cushioning better than a tank bag for a laptop.

I was wondering this myself. Would the magnets of the tank bag mess with the function of the laptop? My buddies credit cards always demagnetized when he used one.

I use the standard messenger bag but they have one witht he laptop sleve sewn in.

You would be very surprised ah how well they work. There is a cross strap that will allow you to carry the load on your waist. Wich I find helpful when riding not to have weight on my shoulders are back. they also carry backpacks but I am not as big a fan of those.

Will you be using it while commuting, or just transporting it to and from work? If using it while riding, RAM has just the mount for you.

I would stay away from a tank bag, I would be really worried about the vibration, unless you use a bed of foam, a very thick bed, same with saddle bags or topcase. The backback really seems like the best way to go, for the sake of the laptop, except in an accident of course...

I think I'm leaning tward the tail bag if i can find one large enough for a laptop. Adding a bed of foam sounds like a good idea.

I have a Toshiba back pack with a special padded section just for the lap top plus tons of extra room for other junk. Good for shorter rides, but not for trips(too heavy).

I ran across this Laptop Locker Looked pretty interesting, and shouldn't scratch the paint.

I've been carrying my laptop in the side luggage of a Kawasaki Concours for years with no harm to the computer, so I don't think carrying it in a tank or tail bag should cause it any harm.

I did the backpack thing, but hated it. Factory hard bags are perfect for this (get the liners). They are easy, secure and totally waterproof.

Ok so two options i have used in the past:
    1) look at some hard bags, I use a givi trunk to haul my laptop and it works great (especially in the rain and lets my store my riding gear when I get there)

    2) look at chrome bags i think it is chromebags.com they makew great bags that can actually be adjusted while riding- they are designed for bike messengers but work great on the motorcycle too :)

I have actually been searching for a similar thing.
I've found a bag called the Kriega US-20 tail bag / courier bag.
It is waterproof and has a shoulder strap as well as four quick release buckles to attach to the back of your bike. I'm definitely considering buying it.
