I'm getting a little tired of the chrome laser blaster pipe on the side of my 2010 VFR 1200. I'm thinking about switching to an aftermarket, but I was wanting to know:
    1) What works the best with the existing mapping
    2) What has the best quality
    3) What works with the panniers, and
    4) What looks the best - if it's too short or too narrow or too racey, it looks a little goofy on this sport tourer.
I saw a photo of a 1200F with a DAM exhaust, and it looked pretty sweet. I also see that Honda UK offers an Akrapovic slip-on right on their website. Not sure what to make of that, other than they must be reasonably confident that it will work well with the bike. Perhaps it is more specifically engineered for the bike? I don't know.
    Thanks, J

Why do you want to keep existing mapping on that thing? Guhl ECU flash should be the first mod on these things.

Well, I thought about that, and was concerned that it would complicate the exhaust choice. Sorry, I need a novice overview of ECU mapping.

Nah slip ons are slip ons. No big deal. You just tell guhl to load a map for a slip on into the ECU.

How do I reach Guhl? Harder than finding the Wizard of Oz? :)

Well the 1200s have more of a high pichted tinny sound to them, so I would stay away from cheap ebay pipes like delkevic and lean more to high end stuff like Akropovic, Dam, Two brothers, Leo vince etc....
I mean in all honesty, not to be a dick, but all of the 1200s sound like a chain saw, there isn't much you can do about it.

lol, Man I would have been happy if mine sounded as good as a chainsaw! Quite honestly, it's more of a sewing machine.

As for the OP, I started off with a Two Bros since I liked the sound of the one I had on a 5th gen. Then my bike just sounded like a louder sewing machine. I decided to just bite the bullet and buy a DAM exhaust and while it is still no where near as awesome as the sound of a 5th gen, it was a huge improvement. Next step was to contact Don and get the ECU flash telling him that I had a DAM exhaust. Pretty much simple as that. As an FYI OP, the flash was $375 and worth every penny.

I thought the DAM exhaust fit the aesthetic of the VFR1200 better than the Akra personally. The Akra could have come from any bike, the DAM looks like it was made for the VFR. So my vote would be DAM. Works well with the panniers too.

The DAM website has lots of good pics and vids of the 1200 with their pipes, too. That is what I would get if I had a 1200 (I actually have a DAM on my 8th gen).
