They have 530's as cheap as $30.00. That's for a real low HP bike, however. Most all places have inexpensive chains that will work, as long as you don't put too much load on them.

I have a cheap non o-ring chain that has a couple grand on it. It probably has a little life left in it. Send me 10bux for shipping and its yours.

Sad facts are that a quality o-ring chain can't be found for less than about $100, and cheap standard chains (non o-ring) won't last on a bike like VFR and will prove unsatisfactory.

Add in the sprockets, which need renewal when chain is replaced, and the bill--to do this job RIGHT--runs to about $160-$180, but it's a long-term investment that will last about 25,000 miles.

The expense of a good chain and sprockets is one of the biggest costs of proper motorcycle maintenance, and there's not much you can do to avoid it when the time has come.

I can appreciate that everyone has to make decisions about finances but I have to totally agree with the Squirrel here. I would wait and save the extra few bucks and get a quality chain and sprocket set and hit the road running rather than to go too cheap and hit the road stumbling. The thought of a poor quality chain snapping and doing what it may do at a higher speed makes me cringe. But you be the judge on that.

I'm on my fourth set of chains and sprokets I think on mine. This time I went D.I.D. They are supposed to be right up there for quality.

Me thinks the brother justs wants to get it running. Im sure he will ultimately get a chain and sprocket kit etc. I can understand hes need to get the thing rolling.

This free $10 for shipping chain will buy him some time to do some research.
