    Hello all,
Just spent 15 minutes writing an intro post that was funny, intelligent, engaging and possibly one of the finest literary works of our time, and then it didn't get posted. So the readers digest version is that I was out for beers with a friend told a Shop owner if he knocked the price of a 2003 VFR with 12,000 miles on it form 5K to 3,800 OTD I'd pick it up in the morning. Got the text the morning from the sales guy-

I currently own a 2006 Ducati Monster and don't know much about VFRs. Hoping to get some help before I follow through with this.
I have to give the bike a more thorough inspection but these are the things I think I should check or expect to change, please add on or advise as necessary.

    1. Remove fairings look for obvious evidence of crash damage (plastics are clean)
    2. The oil has been changed
    3. Ask about coolant
    4. Expect to buy new tires
    5. Expect to change fork oil
    6. Expect or plan for new regulator-how do I tell if the current one is stock and what do I install in it's place?

After that I'm lost so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance for help!

that's a good price for that year if it's intact. I think the regulator issues were resolved by then. I have only heard of occasional troubles from the 6th gen. doesn't hurt to check for sure. welcome to riding a bike all day and still feeling ok.

Wish I could help but I'm a 2nd gen owner so it is out of my realm of knowledge. welcome to the madness and I appreciate that you go have a few beers and buy a new bike. Maybe I should try that strategy because every time I talk to the wife about it it goes nowhere. Maybe I should take her out for a few beers. Again welcome to the madness. Scubalong the official VFRW greeter should be along later this morning and he has a 6 gen and can advise. Good luck and post pics or you will be tarred and feathered

:welcome: to the nuts house
For 2003 $3800 OTD is a fair price. Make sure the recall harness and the break sensor have been done.
If it clean and well maintain this bike will keep you happy for many years to come. Good luck and hope you return with some pictures of your new ride

Thanks for the heads up. What are the issues with the harness and sensor and how do I tell if they have been done?
    Thanks again!

Don't know anything about the sensor but there was a recall on the wiring harness. A quick check of the VIN by a dealership will tell you if it has been done. I understand it is a warranty issue that follows the bike seems to eternity. Problem was corrected well before I got mine.

Welcome to the site and don't forget to post up pix. We like pix here, even pix of you bike. Bitterpil takes pretty good care of us the other way.

Here is the info regarding the break

2003 Honda Vfr800 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Recall 05V010000

NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 05V010000
    Report Date:
    Jan 24, 2005
    Component:
    Service Brakes, Hydraulic
    Potential Units Affected:
    36046
    Manufacturer:
    Honda (american Honda Motor Co.)

Summary: Certain motorcycles equipped with combined-brake systems have a proportioning control valve (pcv) that mechanically proportions brake force when the rear brake is applied. A seal in some pcvs is improperly shaped, and brake fluid leakage may occur.

Consequence: If the motorcycle continues to be used after a leak occurs, the rear brake would eventually become inoperative. A loss of rear brake force could increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the rear brake forleakage. If leakage is confirmed, the dealer will replace the pcv free of charge. The recall began on january 31, 2005. Owners may contact honda at 866-784-1870.

Notes: Honda recall no. P65. Customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to AngryHosting - Affordable Domain Hosting. Safercar. Gov.

    Info for the harness

    2003 Honda Vfr800 Electrical System Recall 07V359000

NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 07V359000
    Report Date:
    Aug 15, 2007
    Component:
    Electrical System
    Potential Units Affected:
    6952
    Manufacturer:
    Honda (american Honda Motor Co.)

Summary: On certain motorcycles, the front fairing sub-harness (section of the wiring harness) transfers the electrical grounding load of the headlights, front turn signals, instrument panel, and various relays to the main wiring harness via an 18-pin connector. Under certain conditions, the ground wire terminals inside the connector can overheat, resulting in melting of the connector and a loss of power to various circuits.

Consequence: As a result, a loss of critical lighting or engine power could occur without warning, which could cause a crash.

Yeah, I'm guessing that something fell through. 2 posts and no pictures. What fun is that?

I know, I know.... here's a random internet picture with a girl and a motorcycle to ease your pain.
