Hello, I have a 98 vfr 800, I bought it about a year ago with an OMRAE carbon fibre race exhaust already fitted. I'm now considering instaling a power comander and high flow air filter, can any one tell me what sort, if any, power increase i could expect if I was to do this to help me decide whether it would be worth the money?
in all seriousness youd be lucky to get another 5 hp out of that. but it is worth it to invest in a pc, for the added midrange torque, smoother/quicker throttle response, and cooler operating temps. but, i must say that the 98s and 99s are awesome bikes, and a really good platform to mod, as far as the vfrs go. you are already ahead of most people, being that yours is catless and lacking o2 sensors. i think the 98s were the lightest vfr's ever made too. things you should look into: erion or two bros racing headers or Full exhaust (not slip ons). these are very rare and hard to come by. i dont think a motad header will really get you any additional power over the stock 98/99 headers. they are both catless and have realatively the same size primaries etc... also in addition to a high flow filter like a bmc, open up your air box. research the snorkel mod, im not sure if the 5th gens had flappers or not like the 6th gen. after all that is done you should have it professionally tune on a dyno. that should keep you busy for a while... oh yeah and welcome aboard! lol
Motad exaust headers Jardine RT1 slipon K&N air filter PC3 USB Custom tune before mapping 92.19HP max and 51.19 Ft/lbs torque @ rear wheel after mapping 98.35HP max and 54.36 Ft/lbs torque @ rear wheel without forced induction of some kind or a big bore kit(both very expensive affairs) from what I have seen this is about the most you can hope to do with bolt ons, give or take a horsepower or Ft/lbs or two. If your stock pipes are in good shape they will have the same flo as the motad headders and from what I understand the bmc and K&N air filters dont flo much better than the stock one also. The PC3 with a custom tune is a must IMO.
