Hey, just wanted to check on weather and suggestions for riding attire in the Bay Area for my trip in a few weeks. Will be the middle/end of September. If I remember right, mornings and nights can get pretty chilly, but days are pretty comfy.

I'm thinking of taking my light Polartec to wear under my leathers and Gerbing's heated jacket liner. Will take heavy Polypropylene tops to wear over the heated liner when needed... then of course leather jacket. I figure layers along with the heated liner seem to work the best and I can put on or take off as the temp changes during the day. Does that sound like I'll be okay?

Also, anybody have suggestions on campgrounds? I may end up riding out by myself a couple days before my buddies. They are not being very flexible on route and stops, so I'm thinking I'll go out a couple days ahead to visit old friends and places I want to go to. That said, I'd rather camp then pay hotel rates by myself. I've got compact tent and sleeping bag, now just need recommendations on campgrounds... anybody?

And last... while I'm there, would love to meet some of you. As it gets closer, maybe we can figure out a meeting place and ride together for a bit. I'm hoping to get there late Saturday/early Sunday... either the 13th/14th or 20th/21st, depending on when they decide to do it.

    Thanks!
    Karen

close to the bay / ocean can be cooler. morning fog.
we've had VERY little rain so far this year.
valley can be hotter'n .....well.....Las Vegas.
what is your planned route? timing?
north from the morrow bay / san simeon area along the PCH is one of my favorite rides. depending on route, you could score a nite or 2 "camping" indoors.....

    sounds like a nice trip......

Cool, Bishop isn't that far from Vegas... what maybe 4 hours or so? Depending on when I hit maybe we can ride for a bit. I've been through Yosemite a few times-- I used to live in San Jose and went to Yosemite from there-- but it would be cool to have a riding partner if you're around. We'll see what works as we get our schedule figgered out... I'm glad you put your description of yourself in the order you did. That's about the order of my priorities when deciding who my friends are.

My friends want to head more north, so we are cutting across central CA, then heading south to Monterey, then heading back north going into Marin County. We're heading back through the northern/central route too. On my couple days solo, I will most likely be hangin out in the peninsula in areas from San Jose to San Francisco, meeting up with old friends from when I lived there. Might try to hit the Corbin factory if I can make that work too. I'm not sure of exact route or when we will be where... but that is sometimes the best way to go... not know anything but just go where the road takes ya! Only destination I know for sure is Alice's in Woodside. My buddies haven't been there so I told 'em we have to ride Skyline and hit Alice's.

I was at Alice's today. Here's a pic of my 07 RWB. Rode from SF to Santa Cruz on HWY 1 and then back up to Alice's via HWY 9 to Skyline (just as Leftcoast said in the earlier post).
It was a nice Sunday ride:)

Not sure how to post the pic from my desk top??

Yup that worked!! Hey, I don't remember the gas pumps... were they always there? Did you go sit on the Group W Bench? Do they still have the fly-infested, smelly port-a-potties?

not sure how long the gas pumps have been there. I've only been to Alice's twice (today and last month).
I sat at the bar and had a cold one. They have real bathrooms!! :)

Whoa... and I see by this pic they have a parking lot with c-c-c-c-ars?! Things sure have changed in a few years. If you haven't been to the place across the street yet, you should go. They have a cool outdoor spot in the back with a nice "backyard" area.

So, you didn't reply to my question about the Group W Bench? Do you know the Alice's Restaurant song? If you don't, you need to listen to it and you will understand... and yes, Alice's has a Group W Bench hidden under the tree up to the right. Look for it next time you go... at least they used to have it. Crap, they have gas pumps and real bathrooms so they might be too high class now for a Group W Bench!! Hahahahahaha!!
