    Hello All,

My A-9 VFR VTEC battery no longer seems to hold its charge.

When charged up on a charger it will ride perfectly; however as soon as you stop riding if you try to re-start the bike immediately then there seems to be almost no battery charge.

The bike has done 20,000 miles. Could it need a replacement battery, or is this problem more likely to be an alternator??

    Thanks

    James

Dude - You need to do a full charging system check. Follow directions for "The Drill" from post #9 from below....

-- If you dont have a multimeter, go buy one, they are cheap.

As mention above........Follow the drill, Stator probably toast  or the battery is dead.

Electrickal problems ?? :welcome: to the club ! :nelson:

Yes, the battery is the first suspect; anything measured less than about 12.5 volts after recharging needs replacement.

Also inspect starter solenoid top plug and 3-wire plug between stator and r/r for any signs of melting, burning, or discoloration on wires.
