Morning all new to the board, went out yesterday to start my bike 09 vrf800, and the it would do the system check and the fuel pump would come on but not enough juice to crank the motor, spin very slowly and very little. when letting off the start buttoon, the whole system would reset, even the clock would go to 100. My question is how do i get to the terminals to charge or remove the battery for a new one? I dontr know how to remove the plate on the outside of the frame that covers the battery. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks

Welcome Hitman198. Its customary to post an intro in the Introductions area of the forum. Also include some pics or you'll get the dreaded :worthless:

Battery removal is pretty straight forward. From the owners manual & service manual:

    Batt Removal.jpg Batt Removal 2.jpg

The plastic clips that hold the black side panel on release by pushing on the center of the clip. The one on the top can be hard to reach by hand. I use needle nose pliers for that.

Battery can be charged on the bike. A lot of us use a Battery Tender of some kind on our bikes. You attach the leads to the battery & run a cable somewhere accessible on the bike. Just plug in whenever the bike is not in use, no need to access the battery every time you hook it up. A tender will keep your battery at full charge & prolong the life of the battery. If your have a large automotive type charger I would use a 2amp or less setting on a motorcycle battery. Battery tenders can be had just about anywhere for $50 +/- depending on brand.

I was always a little cautious and removed the battery for charging...just in case something happened and the charger malfunctioned, or there was a battery problem.....you could also, and many probably will, say that would never happen......but then again you might like the idea of a partially etched swingarm, frame or engine case.

Or you just fit a Glass Matt battery and never have to think about acid again, they are so good you can fit them upside down or on their side, whatever you want to.

I take it you have never seen a glass mat battery that has failed from overcharging, but then again, I figured someone would say it could never happen and I'm waiting for the next 25 to say the same thing.

You can't solve every possible problem, you can only try and reduce the risks, if shit is going to happen, it will and there aint nothing you can do about it
