Ok so I know the title is a little misleading, but I have been seeing pictures of 06 Viffers with and without a fender. I thought to myself stock is the way to go. After looking in the 6th gen gallery I;m starting to rethink that. So whats your opinion on the matter. Clothed (stock) or naked?
I've never ridden a sportbike without a front fender. The only bikes I've really seen without them are choppers. It seems like you might get stuff thrown up in front of you more. I go through enough small gravel/sand in the road that I don't want that. I'm guessing from your header that you're talking about the rear fender...a lot of people remove at least part of it. I myself have along with several other members. We range from the cheapo do it yourself with a jigsaw or dremel, to the full on competition werkes removal kit. Those of us that do it, just feel it looks cleaner. It seems like the stock fenders are always just a little too long. I haven't noticed any negative effects from it, but I'm sure someone has. Personally, I much prefer it trimmed.
I have never seen one without a front fender either. Just somewith rear fender eliminator kits or the rear fender cut down, like mine. My cut down rear fender stil geth the job done. I just trimmed mine down with a dremel. It took a few minutes but it looks a whole lot better than it did.
Sorry I meant the rear thing that the license plate goes on. My terminology is screwed up. You know the plastic looking piece that extends from under the seat.
I been meaning to cut that long rear fender off ....I've seen alot of bikes trimmed or they put a fender eliminator kit or some sort of modification.Check out the photos in our site there are some VFR bikes owners who have done this operation to their bikes
I've go some pics of mine before and after the trim and you can reassy see the difference it makes in the looks. My pics will be in the 3rd gen section of the photo gallery.
The 6th gen VFR rear fender just unbolts and comes right off. No cutting. Mine has a nice angled metal bracket behind the plastic fender that I painted flat black and use to hold my license and marker light. I don't know if this bracket comes with the bike or with the hardware for the bags.
So what about the license plate light. I'm not sure but I think in Va you need to have a light to illuminate your license plate. Chris when you took yours off how do you illuminate your license?
It's still there. All I did was remove the black plastic fender. Everything else remains. The marker light and plate holder are one unit and connect to the bottom of the angled metal bracket I spoke of. I disconnected the marker light under the seat in the tail section, pulled the wire through the hole in the fender, plugged it back in and used one zip tie to attach the wire to the back of the bracket. I'll try to get some close up photos of it tonight and post them.
Well, I work right up in Arlington in the offices above the Ballston Common Mall. I ride to work so if your ever up this way just give a shout.
