I haven't been able to ride the VFR much the past 8, or so, weeks due to a hyper-extended elbow that resulted in arthroscopic surgery. All thanks to a dirt bike spill. I finally have full range of movement but can't ride for very long w/o discomfort. I'm thinking about bar risers but don't know much about them at all. Is one better than the other? I've read up on the genmar and helibars brands a little bit, but there are other brands out there, too. An easy install tops my list for picking one.

From what I've read the Helibars are probably the best, but also the most expensive. About $270 from most sources. They require some modification of the routing of the brake and clutch hoses, and possibly some of the cables. They don't have to be replaced, but they do have to be changed around some to allow them to reach. Installation instructions are on the Heliabr web site at This Link

I've got Genmars on mine and they help. I may still go the Helibar route at some point though. They cost a lot less, around $95, I think. Installation is a breeze and takes about 10 minutes for the pair.

I installed Helibars on my 07, not to difficult and if you have difficulty they are easy to reach for assistance. It helps to be a little mechanically inclined. They look great, and are very comfortable-I highly recommend them!

Thanks for the input all. I'm hopeful to just heal and be as good as new since the bike was perfect for me just the way it was, but I'm getting rather impatient.

Rogue - I'll check that out.

I put the Heli's on my 99 recently.

Couple things...the throttle cables have to be rerouted and the hydraulic lines tweaked. Not a huge deal. But let me tell ya...getting those bar ends out was a real PITA.

Also they 'detune' the sportiness of the steering. If you're used to a more crouched, sport position with the stockers, these will numb up the steering somewhat. Not a bad thing, just different.

They don't raise it up a whole lot, just an inch up and back. Certainly not like a standard or 'street fighter' style. My right hand was going numb, it's much better now. Plus you can tweak the angle of the bars since there's no locking lug. Downside? They don't recommend those handlebar lashing straps when transporting as the bars really aren't locked on, just clamps.

I'm glad I went with the Helibars. In the past I've bought the GenMars for my Magna and GS500e, but eventually I would wish for something higher. These are about as high as should be on the VFR.

Hey Placerville KG. I put Heli's on mine a few weeks ago.
If you want to see the difference it makes, or need help installing, pm me..
I bought mine through Roseville cycle. It seems like everyone has about the same price. I had them in about 4-5 days.
The install was no big deal really.

    Risers

I recently installed the GenMar Risers on my '07 VFR, and I have to agree with SCraig in that it made a difference, but one day may install the Heli Bars.
Install of the GenMars was a breeze. It moves the bars to the highest position on the post.

Heli Bars for me are just to expensive of an option at this time. I need the Zero Gravity ST Windscreen!!!

Thanks for the offer, Tom, I might take you up on that. Wish they weren't so expensive though. That will eat into the $ I've been saving up for exhaust.

Just as important as height is pullback. I get both in spades with a handlebar:

this is about as high as you can go with the stock brake lines and throttle cables both of which I had to reroute.

If you are considering the genmars, try raising the stock clipons by a like amount and see if they are enough. Don't worry too much about them not being in their locking slots. In a hard drop, the soft clipons bend enough to hit the tank anyhow (BTDT).

    Wow, Fotomoto, nice set-up there.

Tom - I'm leaning towards Staintunes for exhaust, but I'm also considering the Leo Vinces and Microns.

I know I am digging up an old thread here, but how difficult is it to mount a set of handlebars like these?

I bought helibars for my SV1000S. I really liked them and they helped a lot. Of course, the stock bars were more radical than they are on the VFR, so I imagine the helibars would work very well. I'm toying with the idea of putting them on the VFR too.
    Cheers
