Whats the deal with the bar ends on the 6Gen bike ? What a P.I.A. !

I need to replace mine, and wonder,....... can i use regular style bar ends ? the type that just expand in the end of the clip on ?

good question, mine suck too. They are loose and keep rotating. I have seen some on ebay, but wonder what the correct replacement is.

The bar end weights have a stepped end which should lock into a step in the bar (acually in the internal anti-vibe weight) there should be no chance for them to rotate unless someone has replaced them with ones from an earlier bike VFR750 for example. Undo the screw and remove it and then replace the weight with a little silicone bath sealant on the end of it, then either put a small smear of the silicone, or some thread lock on the bolt and tighen back up.
You can't use expanding bar ends unless you remove the inner weight, and then your bars will buzz like an angry wasp..

Thanks Rogue, I have removed the stock internal anti-vibe weight from the bar, and was looking to put some on like an earlier bike uses. Do you think using those will cause bad vibrations ?

yeah, i pulled into my parents place a few weeks back, my dad comes out, and remarks "so why is this thing falling off?"
Turns out my bar end was almost all the way off! I screwed it back in tight, but man, thats the third thing that has loosened up enough to almost fall off on this bike. Its brand new!

I hear ya, when mine were complete and still installed (the factory ones) even when they were tight they still hung off the bike, and wiggled back and forth at the half-moon thing at the base of the bar end.

    Short answer: YES!!
The VTEC bars have the same ID as a regular 7/8" handlebar.

Getting the internal weights out of the bars was a much harder job than I expected when I mounted Napoleon bar end mirrors. I ended up using a slide hammer!!! And yes, I disengaged the retaining clips.

I don't know how much vibe the VTEC has, my mirrors stay nice and clear at all speeds.

Removing the innards of the stock bars is probably not a good thing to do. As other have pointed out, it will increase vibration. All you need to stop the things from backing out is some permatex threadlocker.

I also recommend these, I have them on the VFR & Hawk. I painted them with semi gloss black & it's hard to tell they aren't stock. Look under 7/8" for the kind that use internal expansion.

Now thats the kinda answer im looking for  Thanks guys. The innards are a FPIA to remove, but mine are out and NOT going back in. It pretty much destroys them to remove them. Thread locker isnt the solution, its not the screw backing out that makes them loose. The internals seem to be right at the edge and keep the end weight from pressing in enough so that the screw holds them tight agains the bar.

Did you find any reduction in vibration on the VFR with these weights? My 2006 is pretty smooth as it is, I just wondered whether the difference was noticeable.

On the VFR, not so much since it's as smooth as a sport bike can get. I bought them because I screwed up my stock ends. They were the same price as OEM from Honda so I saw no reason to not get them as they are a much better item.

On the Hawk GT, they made a significant improvement. I could tell there was a reduction in bar vibration within 30 seconds of riding.

After using these on both bikes, I will install them on ANY bike I own from here on.

Cool, thanks mate. I have heavier bar ends on my VTR, but then again it vibrates a bit more than the VFR!
