    Mileage, that is.

    Here’s my deal.

5th Gen. Bought it from a dealer in January 08 with about 5500 miles. I have a 2B high-mount, and the bike came with a PC (believe it was a PC1, at that point).

About 1000 miles later (in 2008), I start having FI issues (skip the details). Bring it back to the dealer, who states the ECM (?) is shot, and the entire system needs to be replaced. They agree to do all this (supposedly about $900 worth of parts and labor) for free, but they will only do it for free if they can remove the existing PC as they feel it was faulty. I agree, figuring its cheaper/easier to buy a new PC anyway. (I have the receipt somewhere showing all the work they did, I just don’t recall as it was over a year ago).

Before they did the work, I was getting about 22-25mpg (really). Since then, I get about 30-32 on average. Doesn’t seem to matter how I ride (i.e. highway at a relaxed pace, or back roads at a more spirited pace). I read and hear how so many others on this site are getting 35, 40 or even a bit more.

There’s no PC on it now, and no other modifications at all other than the slip on.

Separately, but on a related note, is the fuel gauge. When it drops from 2 bars, it immediately goes to flashing on 1 bar. Is this normal?

Also, when the gauge is flashing and I go to fill up shortly thereafter, no matter how much I might want to try and squeeze the fuel in there, I can never get more than 4 or 4.25 gallons. Meaning, the low fuel flashing indicator is coming on with about 1.5 gallons left. I thought it was supposed to start flashing when there is about .5 gallons remaining. Is this something with the internal mechanism, or is it possible I have a faulty connection somewhere?

Any suggestions on why I might be getting relatively poor gas mileage? (There is no way I can go 200 miles on a tank).
