I know this is way off topic from motorbikes.
But i am considering the purchase of a used 2008 John Deere 310 SJ.
Are they generally a good machine reliability wise?
It seems to have been maintained okay. Only has 3162 hours on it.
    Anyone have thoughts on this?
If i don't get it and continue to shop is any one brand better or worse than the rest? Example is Cat or Case or JD leaps and bounds better or worse.

    Thanks in advance.

At my job, we have a 2013 JD 310SK. Bought brand new. Of all the brands/models out there, this was my first choice, and I love it. I have rented many 310SJ's in the past with good results. That is probably the most common backhoe ever made (everyone is falmiliar with it, parts are easy to find, etc). I say if it looks to be in good shape and properly cared for, go for it. You really can't go wrong with a JD 310.

There's always the chrome exhaust stack farkle! It's even a factory option on the new ones.

I prefer the JD to Cat or Case. I always seem to work faster with it. Especially when running the loader.
Bottom line is you can't go wrong with a John Deere 310.
"only 3162 hours". depending on who was using it, that's getting up there. For instance , if you're buying it from a rental company you'd be wise to take a good hard look at it. As a general rule, we always rented the machine for a day or two before buying it. Wether from a rental company or farmer John. Rental fee should be credited if purchased.
