hi guys.im new to the vfr world and im a new vfr owner as well.i just bought an 2001 vfr with 23k miles from a friend of mine.so far i loved the bike.only bad thing i can say about it is the low end torque(but i have to say im coming off of a bandit 1200)
other than that its a beauty.

my question is ;bike has yoshi slip-on and kn airfilter and no pc.i cant say bike is very smooth under 4k.theres no popping from the exhaust though.it hesitates a little under 4k and im thinking going back to oem air filter would reduce this surging as the amount of air gets in the engine will reduce and makes it running a little less leaner.
do you guys think it would help?

EMGO makes an aftermarket filter that is identical to the OEM filter for about half the price. I've used them for years and have no complaints.

Unless youre in 1st gear, stay at or above 4k. It is a V engine but its not a torque machine like a v-twin. The rpms go high for a reason.

My bike has the same miles and set up just a year older. No hesitation or surging here... sounds like you should try running some quality injector cleaner thru a tank or 2 of gas.

+1 for sure------- I have never run any of my bikes below 3500 except in first or second and with the VFR as said above, keep it above 4000. Hell I keep my one lunger 650 (oversquare) at about 3500 min. The 800 VFR will dig it's way out of too low R's but it doesn't like it.

sorry for the late update guys.in the mean time i changed my sprockets and chain and apparently 60 percent of the surging and hesitation was because of my crappy old chain and sprockets.i was really happy with the result and i found a few mini mods on the internet like disconnecting a little hose and tape and hesitation problem is down to 20 percent.i ordered an oem air filter and planning to do the pair valve mod together so i can have 100 percent smooth bike.there is very little left to have an perfect bike.i can see the light :)
