After nearly 2 years away from my beloved 2002 6th gen I bought one yesterday to use as a general commuter to work, I couldn't quite get myself to buy another 6th gen as it appears they are priced quite high in the used market plus the Vtec models valve service was bit too expensive on my last one. So I was off on a hunt for a clean hopefully well maintained 5th gen for a reasonable sum around $3500 or less.

Story about my bike, a friend of mine who works for Honda tipped me off on some ex-tester bikes for journalist and reviewers being dumped for pennies. These bikes were stored in the honda mojave desert proving grounds for 10 plus years. My bike a 2001 VFR800 with a mere 6700 miles (albeit hard abusive miles from journalist) was sitting in a dusty dirty sandy warehouse. This is bike #000021 off the assy line so it's a early 01 model off the line. The condition was not well, even with low miles the sand and sun had beaten the paint and everything mechanical on this poor gem. There is a lot of sun damage, faded plastics, sandy dirty parts. The bike unfortunately has seen some drops as both fairings have some scuffs from drops in perhaps a driveway or whatever. This will be my resto project to get her back to original shape. I spent endless hours last night refinishing the bike, I changed the plugs, oil and filter, replaced air filter which looked like Miami beach inside. Today i got the sun dried 11 year old original dunlop off and replaced them with the new Brigestone S20 that just came out. I spent nearly 4 hours polishing, waxing, trying to get that oxidized finish to go away, here is the end result.

Got around to install my Bi-Xenon HID last night, what a difference. No glare, just a clean lighting pattern. Has a nice glare sheild from getting stray light everywhere.
